Our North American Project

Over the past few weeks we have been working with several classes across North America. One of those is Mrs. Cassidy's first grade class in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. We sent videos introducing ourselves, and we also worked together to create our first Storybird! Take a look: Making Friends by kathycassidy, MrsBair on Storybird Storybird is a very easy-to-use website that lets you create your own books. We all have our own usernames and passwords. We're still working on remembering that creating a story means more than just adding a few words to the beautiful pictures; we need to include characters, a setting, some sort of problem, events and a solution. But we'll continue to work with this great program throughout the rest of the year!

The United States

Our last marking period is going to be a study of the United States, specifically we're going to look at the regions and what makes each one unique. As we learn about the regions we're also going to take a closer look at each state. Here's a little preview! Do you think YOU can learn the states and capitols as well as Wakko?

Do you think you can sing The Fifty, Nifty United States?

Agriculture Day

We went on a little field trip. We went up to the fair grounds and the high school kids toldmus about animals on farm and recycling. Also we all got to go up into a tractor and got are pictures taken and at that station we learned safety rules to do on a farm. And we went to a cheese station and we go munster cheese it was good. Last we did their we had to name what kinds of cows she held up were. There was also a station that talked about animals the sea. But they mainly talked about fish. They talked about the different parts of it. They had a station on recycling and we played a game. The object of the game was to recycle things but you had to sort them and the things that went in recycling went in a recycling bin and the things that needed thrown in the garbage got throw in the garbage. So all in all it was a good trip an turned out to be good. I hope we go on a field trip like that again.

Girls on the Run

A group of 4th and 5th grade girls has been having a great time on Mondays and Wednesday after school being part of the Girls on the Run program. Each practice starts with a lesson that helps us (yes, even the grown-ups) develop positive skills for living a healthy life. You can see what a great time we're having by looking at these pictures:

Our team, the Girls on Track team, and the Girls on the Run team from East High will be holding our practice 5K on the grounds of East High and Bear Creek on Monday, April 23. We hope that many of you will be able to join us to run or to cheer on the girls and their running buddies!
